The Malaga delegation reminded industry professionals gathered at Seatrade Cruise Global that in September it will host the international cruise fair in the Mediterranean

Miami, April 11th, 2024 – The cruise industry met at the most important fair in the sector, Seatrade Cruise Global, where over 10,000 professionals attended to learn about market trends.

Following this prominent meeting, Malaga will be the next important event on the calendar of events related to this type of tourism, being the first time that this one is repeated in the same Mediterranean destination.

In this sense, the president of the Port Authority, Carlos Rubio, along with the Malaga delegation formed by the City Council, Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Andalusian Government, Malagaport Foundation and Suncruise Andalucía reminded cruise companies and industry professionals that “next September Malaga will host, for the second consecutive time, the international cruise fair in the Mediterranean, Seatrade Cruise Med”. And he added that “it is not only an honour to host this event again, but it is also a responsibility because the success of the previous edition was such that the challenge is now even greater. But with the support of our local partners, we will make it a great event again.”

For his part, the councillor delegate of Tourism and City Promotion of the City Council of Malaga, Jacobo Florido, emphasized that “the objective for the city is for this event to contribute to cruise companies establishing Malaga as a home port, in order to also promote the interest of airlines in the destination to continue increasing connections and facilitate the Malaga-Miami flight.”

In addition, the delegate of Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol, Esperanza González, highlighted that “the event will once again feature the world’s leading cruise companies to whom we will show everything the Costa del Sol can offer them because the potential of the destination in the cruise segment is undeniable. We have the ingredients that cruise passengers are looking for: a cultural and safe destination in the Mediterranean, well connected and with an attractive lifestyle, being one of the segments that benefits our destination the most.”

The support of the Seatrade organization itself and the Association of Mediterranean Ports, Medcruise, without which this candidacy would not have been possible, was also noted during the presentation, with the aim of promoting the participation of the entire cruise community that will meet on September 11th and 12th at the Trade Fair and Congress Centre of Malaga.

In addition to the commitment of all the entities involved, the collaboration of other entities in the organization of this important event such as Ports of Spain, Global Ports Holding, Malaga Cruise Port, CitySightseeing, Suncruise Andalucía, and Malagaport Foundation must be added.

Promotion Opportunity

The previous edition, held in 2022, had attendance figures above the average of other years, according to the Seatrade organization which, on this occasion, expects to receive:

  • More than 2,000 attendees.
  • More than 80 countries.
  • More than 180 exhibiting companies.
  • More than 175 cruise industry professionals.

Seatrade Cruise Med will give great visibility to Malaga and other ports in the region as a top cruise destination. The celebration of this fair will also strengthen Spain’s role as one of the main destinations in Europe.

Meetings at Seatrade Cruise Global

As is customary at these meetings, the Malaga delegation held meetings with the main cruise companies in the sector to continue strengthening contacts with the executives who make decisions about their ships’ itineraries.

In this way, the offer of the port and the destination in terms of infrastructure and services to the ship and passengers was shown, adapting to the current demand and highlighting information on international airport connections, so important to be a reference home port in southern Europe.
