History
City Sightseeing Worldwide was founded in 1999 to bring local hop-on hop-off operators together under a single brand and to expand this service to new destinations. Although tourism was one of the first industries to globalise, at that time there was no international brand that was recognisable to travellers worldwide and that would allow operators to benefit from economies of scale, centralise their marketing operations, and negotiate centrally with tour operators and agencies. The first bus bearing the City Sightseeing brand began operating in Seville, Spain, on 31 March 1999 and, from there, the company began a rapid expansion across the United Kingdom and the rest of the world, eventually building a network spanning more than 100 destinations across six continents.
