The Deputy Ministry of Tourism is responsible for the development and implementation of the National Tourism Strategy of Cyprus.
It ensures the implementation of tourism legislation, maintains lists of licensed tourism businesses, and supervises the tourism sector, in order to maintain high standards of service.
It promotes tourism awareness, education and training, prepares studies and analyzes tourism-related data, aiming at the continuous improvement and modernization of the services provided.
History
The Deputy Ministry of Tourism in Cyprus is the result of the transformation of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO). It was established in accordance with the 2018 law that defined the role of the Deputy Ministry. The primary objective of this ministry is to serve as a strategic and supervisory authority in developing a national tourism strategy for Cyprus. It is responsible for promoting and projecting Cyprus as a tourist destination, as well as enforcing tourism legislation. Some of its main tasks include coordinating and implementing an integrated National Tourism Strategy, supporting tourism investments, promoting tourist awareness and education, and overseeing the tourism sector.
