Fondazione Livorno Euro Mediterranea (LEM) is a public-interest foundation established by the Municipality of Livorno and operating under private law. As the official Destination Management Organization (DMO) of the Livorno Tourism Area, covering Livorno, Collesalvetti and Capraia Island, LEM coordinates tourism promotion, destination marketing and stakeholder engagement activities, supporting the sustainable development of tourism and strengthening Livorno’s position as a Mediterranean destination.

History

Fondazione Livorno Euro Mediterranea (LEM) was established by the Municipality of Livorno to create a dedicated organization capable of promoting the city and supporting its tourism and cultural development. Over the years, the Foundation has evolved from a local promotional body into the official Destination Management Organization (DMO) of the Livorno Tourism Area, covering Livorno, Collesalvetti and Capraia Island. Through the coordination of tourism promotion activities, destination development projects and major events, LEM has strengthened its role as a key facilitator between public institutions, private stakeholders and local communities, contributing to the growth and competitiveness of the destination.

As a public-interest foundation under private law, we bring together institutions, businesses and communities around a shared vision for Livorno and its surrounding area. We connect tourism, culture, events and port activities through a coordinated destination strategy that generates lasting value for residents and visitors. Through stakeholder engagement, partnership and forward-looking destination management, we support sustainable development, enhance quality of life, improve visitor experiences and strengthen Livorno’s position as a responsible and competitive Mediterranean destination.

Company information

Established by the Municipality of Livorno, Fondazione LEM is a private-law foundation entrusted with public-interest functions in the fields of tourism promotion, destination management and territorial development. Acting as the Destination Management Organization (DMO) of the Livorno Tourism Area, the Foundation develops tourism strategies, coordinates relationships among public and private stakeholders, supports tourism product development and implements promotional initiatives in domestic and international markets.

Fondazione LEM also plans, coordinates and promotes major cultural, tourism and community events, which play a key role in enhancing the destination's attractiveness, generating visitor flows and strengthening Livorno's identity. The Foundation works closely with the Port System Authority, cruise industry stakeholders and local operators to increase Livorno's visibility within the Mediterranean cruise network and to foster sustainable tourism growth.

Covered Geographic Area :
Fondazione LEM is the official Destination Management Organization (DMO) of the Livorno Tourism Area, covering the municipalities of Livorno, Collesalvetti and Capraia Island, in Tuscany, Italy. The area combines a major Mediterranean port, a historic coastal city, cultural heritage, seaside tourism, outdoor experiences and island tourism.

Fondazione LEM represents the tourism interests of the Livorno Tourism Area and works on behalf of the Municipality of Livorno in coordinating destination promotion, tourism development and stakeholder engagement activities. The Foundation also serves as a platform for collaboration among public institutions, tourism businesses, cultural organizations and local stakeholders.

•Fondazione LEM is a public-interest foundation operating under private law and structured as a participatory foundation. Alongside the Municipality of Livorno as Founder, around 25 public and private organizations contribute to the Foundation's activities through Participating and Supporting Membership. •The Foundation promotes destination governance through stakeholder collaboration, tourism planning, destination marketing, cruise tourism development and the organization of major cultural and tourism events. Since 2026, Fondazione LEM has been an Associate Member of MedCruise.

Through their respective assemblies, they contribute ideas, proposals and strategic input for the development and promotion of the destination, fostering a collaborative governance model between institutions, tourism businesses and local stakeholders.
