Description:
Satisfy your appetite for local culture and cuisine on this excursion. The day begins with a guided tour of the Montero Rum Distillery, a 50-year-old family business. This is the only rum distillery open to the public in the European continent. Rum Montero continues elaborating its products of well-known high quality in the same way as they always have done, using artisanal production techniques, high quality raw materials, using virgin-oak casks and the traditional solera and criadera slow-aging process. After more than half a century, Ron Montero has become the genuine Spanish rum.
The tour will continue to the centre of Motril with a stop for trying churros and chocolate in a local café. This has got to be everyone’s favourite Spanish breakfast. Dip this delicious fritters in hot thick chocolate, a great way to start the day.
Afterwards enjoy a taste of local life at the fish and fruit indoor market in Motril town centre. The exquisite and exotic subtropical fruits grown on the Costa Tropical will be detailed and tasted, such as mangos, avocados and custard apples.
You will also make a visit to a fish and seafood stool to admire the huge array of fresh local products available, directly from the sea. This is where locals come to find the day’s fresh catch. Pick up local ingredients for the Chef’s special recipes you’ll enjoy during a shipboard dinner served later. You will sample products such as the succulent cooked local prawns known as “quisquilla”, a real delicacy, accompanied by a glass of local Spanish wine.
The last stop of this tour will be a local cake shop to try the famous Piononos and Torta Real (Royal Cake). This almond delicacy of Arabic origin has been elaborated for over five generations. Learn how these sweets are made and why they are so popular.
Return to the ship to savour an exclusive group dinner prepared by your Executive Chef, using the day’s market finds.
