Representatives from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and Fred. Olsen Port Agency recently visited Tenerife Ports for a strategic meeting focused on strengthening collaboration and exploring future opportunities for cruise development in the Canary Islands.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and brought together representatives from the cruise line, the port agency and the commercial team responsible for destination development and international relations.
The session was led by Luz Marina Espiau, Member of the MedCruise Board of Directors, who presented the strengths and competitive advantages of Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro as cruise destinations. The presentation highlighted the unique combination of modern port infrastructure, authentic visitor experiences, year-round operations and a strong commitment to sustainability that positions the Canary Islands as one of the leading cruise regions in the Mid-Atlantic.
During the meeting, participants exchanged views on current market trends, future deployment opportunities and the growing importance of destinations that combine operational excellence with responsible tourism development. Particular attention was given to the collaborative efforts undertaken by the ports and local stakeholders to enhance the cruise experience while supporting sustainable growth.
The visit also provided an opportunity to showcase the strategic role that the Canary Islands play within international cruise itineraries, offering a unique blend of connectivity, natural diversity and high-quality port services.
Following the meeting, delegates participated in a guided tour of the port facilities, including cruise terminals and operational areas, gaining first-hand insight into the infrastructure and services available to cruise operators.
