On Monday, 15 September 2025, the Heraklion Port Authority (HPA) had the pleasure of welcoming 28 students and 4 faculty members from the Department of Geography at the University of Augsburg, Germany. The group visited Heraklion as part of an academic field trip to Crete, with a focus on economy and sustainability.
The visit began at the Headquarters of HPA, where the group was welcomed by the CEO, Mr. Minas Papadakis. A presentation followed by Cruise Manager, Ms. Kyriaki Kampana, covering key aspects of the port’s operations, the cruise sector, infrastructure development, and the port’s strategic role in both the local and international economy.
The students also received a detailed briefing from Chief Financial Officer, Mr. George Karouzos, and Administrative Advisor, Mr. Minas Seimenis, focusing on the port’s commercial and passenger activities, connectivity, and future development prospects.
In the second part of the visit, the group was given a guided tour of the port facilities, with the opportunity to explore up close the port’s infrastructure, including passenger terminals, commercial zones, cruise areas, and ongoing development projects.
This visit is part of HPA’s ongoing strategy to enhance its outreach and cooperation with academic institutions abroad, encouraging the exchange of knowledge and best practices in port development, sustainability, and spatial planning.
