The distinction adds to Lisbon’s recognition as Europe’s Best Cruise Destination at the 2026 World Cruise Awards

Lisbon has once again received international recognition, winning the award for Europe’s Leading Cruise Destination at the 33rd edition of the World Travel Awards Europe, held on 17 October in Montenegro. This marks the sixth time the Portuguese capital has received this distinction, following previous wins in 2009, 2014, 2016, 2020 and 2022.

The category featured 11 nominees, with Lisbon outperforming leading European destinations such as Athens, Bodrum, Cannes, Copenhagen, Dubrovnik, Edinburgh, Izmir, Kusadasi, Oslo and Venice.

The latest distinction comes just days after Lisbon was also named Europe’s Best Cruise Destination at the 2026 World Cruise Awards, further reinforcing the city’s international reputation as a leading cruise destination.

According to Port of Lisbon Authority, winning both awards within such a short period reflects the work carried out by the port and tourism communities, as well as Lisbon’s ability to establish itself in an increasingly competitive sector:

“Receiving this award once again is a source of great pride for Lisbon and the Port of Lisbon, which has been strengthening its position as an increasingly sustainable, innovative and competitive port and destination. This distinction reinforces the city’s appeal in the European and international markets and encourages us to continue investing in improving infrastructure and services, while ensuring the harmonious integration of cruise activities with the local community.”

The Port of Lisbon was also nominated for Europe’s Leading Cruise Port, a category in which it has an extensive track record of international recognition, with nine wins to date, the most recent in 2023.

Since Lisbon first received the title of Europe’s Leading Cruise Destination in 2009, at the World Travel Awards ceremony held in Óbidos, the city and its port have accumulated international awards and nominations, reflecting the development of their offering and Lisbon’s growing profile in the European cruise market.

“Cruise tourism is an important driver of economic development, generating value for retail, hotels, restaurants and services. This award confirms Lisbon’s ability to welcome visitors from all over the world while maintaining high standards of quality and hospitality,” Port of Lisbon Authority emphasises.
