Luz Marina Espiau Moreno, Member of the MedCruise Board of Directors and Commercial and Business Development Director at the Port of Tenerife, recently participated in the TUI Cruises Business Development Programme onboard Mein Schiff Flow, an initiative designed to provide cruise industry stakeholders with direct insight into the strategic priorities, operational excellence and future developments of one of Europe’s leading cruise operators.

The programme brought together professionals from across the cruise industry, creating a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. Throughout the programme, participants engaged with teams from TUI Cruises, including representatives from both Mein Schiff and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, as well as industry stakeholders and a representative from CLIA.

Working sessions focused on key topics shaping the future of the cruise sector, including sustainability, destination development, innovation, energy transition, operational efficiency and evolving passenger expectations. Participants were also given the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the operational reality of a modern cruise vessel through technical visits and presentations delivered by specialists from different areas of the organisation.

A particular focus was placed on sustainability initiatives and environmental management, including advanced wastewater treatment systems, waste management processes, energy efficiency measures and technologies supporting the industry’s transition towards lower-emission operations.

The programme also highlighted the important relationship between cruise lines and destinations, showcasing how collaboration with local businesses, suppliers and communities contributes to creating positive economic impact and shared value.

Reflecting on the experience, Luz Marina Espiau Moreno emphasised the importance of initiatives such as this in strengthening relationships between cruise lines, ports and destinations, while providing valuable opportunities to better understand industry priorities, operational challenges and future opportunities.

Participation in programmes of this nature contributes to MedCruise’s commitment to fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing and stronger connections across the cruise industry ecosystem, supporting the continued development and competitiveness of its members.
