Oceania Cruises’ Allura called at Santa Cruz de La Palma on 29 August and Santa Cruz de Tenerife on 30 August, offering a strong example of how the Canary Islands can respond to the growing demand for more immersive, destination focused luxury cruise experiences.
During both calls, the ship and its representatives were welcomed by representatives of the Port Authority, accompanied by their respective port agents. In Tenerife, the welcoming delegation included Luz Marina Espiau Moreno, Commercial and Business Development Director and MedCruise Board of Directors member. The traditional plaque exchange ceremonies provided an opportunity to strengthen the relationship with the cruise line and, above all, to showcase the diversity of experiences available across the islands.
The consecutive calls in La Palma and Tenerife demonstrate the complementarity of two destinations with their own distinct identities. La Palma offers an exceptional connection with nature, volcanic landscapes, local traditions and authentic island life, while Tenerife combines an extensive range of cultural, gastronomic, natural and leisure experiences with the diversity of landscapes that characterises the island.
This diversity is particularly relevant for Oceania Cruises, a luxury cruise line whose guests place significant value on gastronomy, culture and deeper destination discovery. A broad portfolio of shore excursions allows cruise guests to go beyond the port of call and experience the territory through local cuisine, heritage, landscapes, communities and activities connected to the identity of each island.
Attracting this segment is also aligned with a wider destination strategy focused not simply on increasing cruise volumes, but on increasing the value generated by each call. In Tenerife, the call was complemented by a bunkering operation, demonstrating how the destination experience can be combined with the operational services required by cruise lines during their Atlantic itineraries.
