The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife continues to consolidate its role as a leading Atlantic hub where port operations, energy transition and cruise activity converge.
The organisation of The Bunkering & Sustainability Forum – Tenerife 2026 represents a clear example of this positioning. By hosting this international forum, the Port Authority brought together key stakeholders from the maritime, energy and bunkering sectors, reinforcing Tenerife’s role as a platform for dialogue, innovation and strategic alignment.
Within this context, Luz Marina Espiau, Member of the Board of Directors of MedCruise, moderated a panel focused on one of the key challenges facing island and port regions: how to effectively connect infrastructure, energy transition and investment through coordinated institutional ecosystems.
The forum addressed key industry priorities, including the development of alternative fuels, evolving regulatory frameworks and the operational transformation required to meet decarbonisation targets across the maritime sector.
From a cruise perspective, the event provided an operational dimension, with participants having the opportunity to observe bunkering operations of a Cunard vessel, part of Carnival Group, as well as LNG supply operations for AIDA. These examples provided direct insight into how ports are adapting to support cleaner fuels and new energy solutions.
These operations reflect a broader evolution in the role of ports, which are increasingly becoming integrated energy hubs, supporting cruise lines in meeting environmental objectives while maintaining operational efficiency.
The forum highlighted the importance of integrating infrastructure, energy, logistics and institutional collaboration in order to build competitive and sustainable port ecosystems.
By hosting initiatives of this level, Tenerife continues to strengthen its international positioning and contributes to the advancement of a more sustainable and resilient cruise and maritime industry.
MedCruise continues to support initiatives that foster collaboration, innovation and sustainability across ports and destinations.
