The 68th MedCruise General Assembly, set to take place in the historic city of Palermo, Italy, from 9th to 12th June 2026, promises to be a landmark event for both the Association and the global cruise industry.
Hosted and co-organised by the Port System Authority of the Sea of Western Sicily, this year’s gathering will bring together MedCruise members, cruise line executives, associate members, media representatives and key industry stakeholders for four days of strategic dialogue, networking and collaboration, while celebrating a significant milestone: the 30th anniversary of MedCruise.
This edition holds particular significance as MedCruise marks three decades of cooperation among Mediterranean cruise ports and destinations. To commemorate this important milestone, honorary presidents and former secretaries general of the Association will join the celebrations in Palermo, reflecting on MedCruise’s evolution, achievements and contribution to strengthening the Mediterranean as the world’s leading cruise destination.
The official programme will feature a wide range of activities designed to encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing and innovation across the sector. Dedicated Working Group Meetings will provide specialised discussions on key topics affecting the cruise industry, while the Internal Matters Session will focus on governance, strategic priorities and the future direction of the Association.
Discussions throughout the Assembly will address both the immediate challenges and long-term evolution of the cruise sector. Topics will include the impact of geopolitical developments on cruise deployment and Mediterranean itineraries, the transformation of cruise operations and passenger expectations over the past three decades, the evolution of communication in an increasingly digital and AI-driven environment, and the growing role of Mediterranean destinations in balancing tourism growth, sustainability and local identity. Particular emphasis will also be placed on accessibility, innovation and strategic relationship management as key drivers of a more connected and resilient cruise ecosystem.
The MedCruise State of the Industry Report will also be presented during the event, offering attendees valuable insights into the latest trends, market developments and operational dynamics shaping the cruise sector across the Mediterranean and its adjoining seas. The presentation will provide a data-driven overview of the current state of the industry while highlighting key challenges, emerging opportunities and strategic priorities for the years ahead.
Beyond the conference programme, delegates will have the opportunity to experience the rich cultural and historical heritage of Palermo and Sicily through a curated series of excursions designed to showcase the region’s unique identity, traditions and tourism offering. These experiences will include Among UNESCO Monuments and Baroque Splendors, the Lisca Bianca Tour, The Leopard Residence (Le Dimore Gattopardo), and In Monreale, Where Time Seemed Suspended by Sky and Stone, offering participants the opportunity to discover Palermo’s architectural treasures, coastal beauty, artistic legacy and authentic Sicilian atmosphere.
The social programme will include a spectacular Gala Dinner celebrating both the General Assembly and MedCruise’s 30th anniversary, as well as a vibrant Farewell Dinner featuring local music, cultural performances and Sicilian hospitality.
Participants will also benefit from exclusive networking opportunities with cruise companies and media representatives throughout the event.
The General Assembly once again confirms its growing international relevance, with MedCruise achieving a new record for cruise line participation and welcoming representatives from 27 cruise companies to this year’s event. This unprecedented level of engagement highlights the Association’s role as the leading platform for dialogue and cooperation between Mediterranean destinations and the global cruise industry.
Over the course of the Assembly, more than 700 B2B meetings will take place between MedCruise members and cruise line executives, creating valuable opportunities for new partnerships, dialogue and business development. Over 240 participants will attend the event, further reinforcing its position as one of the most important cruise industry gatherings in the Mediterranean.
With its combination of high-level discussions, business networking, cultural exchange and anniversary celebrations, the 68th MedCruise General Assembly represents a significant milestone for both the Association and the wider cruise industry. As MedCruise celebrates 30 years of collaboration, Palermo will provide an ideal setting not only to reflect on past achievements but also to shape the future of cruising in the Mediterranean for decades to come.
