The Heraklion Port Authority S.A. (OLH), as part of its commitment to protecting the marine environment and raising awareness within the local community, in cooperation with the Municipality of Heraklion and the Heraklion Coast Guard, successfully carried out a cleanup action at Dermatas Bay, joining the pan-European campaign #EUBeachCleanup 2025.

Equipped with the necessary materials, employee volunteers began early in the morning of Friday, September 19, 2025, collecting and removing significant amounts of waste from the shoreline, thus contributing to the preservation of a clean and safe coastal area.

The initiative highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in tackling marine pollution and protecting ecosystems increasingly threatened by waste and single-use plastics.

The CEO of the Heraklion Port Authority, Mr. Minas Papadakis, stated:
“Protecting the sea is a top priority for us. With initiatives such as the #EUBeachCleanup, we send the message that caring for the marine environment is everyone’s responsibility. We must ensure clean seas for future generations.”

The participation of the Heraklion Port Authority in international initiatives such as the #EUBeachCleanup demonstrates OLH’s ongoing commitment to combining port operations with environmental sustainability and fostering environmental awareness within the local community.
