In an event that strengthens the ties between the cruise industry and the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the traditional plaque exchange ceremony was held today to commemorate the first call of the Marella Voyager at the capital’s port, which Marella Cruises has chosen as its home port for this season.
The ceremony featured the traditional exchange of plaques between the Captain of the Marella Voyager and Luz Marina Espiau, Board Member of MedCruise and representative of the Port Authority, in the presence of Alejandro from Intercruces, the ship’s shipping agent responsible for coordinating the vessel’s operations during its stay in port.
Operated by Marella Cruises, part of the British group TUI, the Marella Voyager has capacity for around 2,600 passengers and 900 crew members. Completely refurbished in 2023, the ship combines comfort, sustainability, and British hospitality, offering guests an onboard experience focused on well-being and service excellence.
Having Santa Cruz de Tenerife as its home port represents a strategic milestone for the province, consolidating it as a key hub in the Atlantic. Unlike a transit call, a home port is where a cruise itinerary begins and ends, involving all logistical, technical, and service operations such as passenger embarkation and disembarkation, provisioning, waste management, and vessel maintenance. These activities generate a significant and sustained economic impact on the local community, boosting tourism, hospitality, transport, and port services.
With this first call, Marella Cruises reaffirms its confidence in Santa Cruz de Tenerife as a competitive, sustainable, and high-quality destination, highlighting its infrastructure, connectivity, and the professionalism of its port community.
Port representatives expressed their gratitude to the Captain and crew of the Marella Voyager, as well as to Intercruces, for their involvement and collaboration in a ceremony that symbolizes the continuity of a strong and lasting relationship between the cruise line and our ports.
