A delegation from the Port of Huelva and the Association for the Commercial Promotion of the Port of Huelva (HuelvaPort), led by the president of the Port of Huelva, Pilar Miranda, is present this week at the largest cruise industry trade fair in the world, the Seatrade Cruise Global event, which is being held in Miami Beach, where the Odiel Marina and the future cruise terminal, two projects which form part of the remodelling of the new port front at the Levante wharf, will be presented tomorrow, 26 April, at an event at the stand of Ports of Spain.

The president of the Port of Huelva, Pilar Miranda, stated that “we are attending this important event of the international cruise industry, which is taking place in Miami, with the aim of publicising the projects that we are going to carry out in the Levante wharf, such as the Odiel Marina, works already started by the concessionary company, and the future cruise terminal, to attract potential investors who will generate new opportunities for wealth and employment in Huelva”.

Likewise, within the framework of this event, the representatives of the Port of Huelva and HuelvaPort will hold meetings with shipping companies and tour operators in the sector to generate business contacts with the aim of continuing to promote the arrival of new cruise calls at the Levante pier.

Work began at the beginning of this month on the Marina Deportiva del Odiel at the Levante dock of the Port of Huelva, a project which represents a decisive step in the transformation that this space will undergo, which will contribute to a positive change in the image of Huelva in the world and will bring the port closer to the city.

The project, which has been promoted by the company Sociedad de Gestión de Puertos y Marinas SL and the Club Deportivo Náutico Puerta del Atlántico, has an investment of more than 13 million euros and is scheduled to be completed between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024.

The facilities of the Marina Deportiva del Odiel will be built on a 7,200 square metre platform over the water, to which will be added the space of the 1,200 square metre north shed of the Levante wharf, which will have different activities such as a gymnasium and a nautical activities centre.

The Marina Deportiva complex will have a unique boat-type building for catering. It will also have an infinity pool to blend in with the surroundings of the estuary, as well as a 2,500-metre area for a commercial area, with a sailing club and a sports school, among other spaces.

The Marina Deportiva will have 400 berths for yachts and pleasure boats from 6 to 40 metres in length, as well as offering transit berths for vessels of up to 60 metres in length. As a novelty, it will also have an area for mooring catamarans.

Innovation, sustainability and digitalisation will be key factors in the development of the project, according to the company behind it, which aims to promote the first smart marina in Andalusia.

These facilities will complement the services and infrastructures of the Muelle de Levante, which after a complete remodelling will configure an urban space of interaction between the port and the city of Huelva, with green areas, leisure spaces, business, services, restaurants, sports, cultural activities, maritime-sports and fishing activities.

Levante wharf will also have a cruise terminal so that the ships can call at these installations, located five minutes from the heart of the city, where the cruise passengers will be able to stroll around and access the commercial, leisure and restaurant offer, so that they can contribute to boosting the economy of Huelva.

The Levante dock will have up to 80,000 square metres available for the implementation of all kinds of activities.

The Port of Huelva has promoted the creation of a management office for the remodelling project, which has been awarded to a company specialising in large-scale urban transformation projects, CBRE, which in collaboration with BOVIS and Metropoly will be responsible for carrying out market studies and demand analysis, as well as marketing and attracting investors for this space, with the aim of attracting large projects for new activities, which will generate wealth and employment for Huelva and the province.
