  • Coming from Australia to spend the season in Europe, it has circumnavigated all of Africa, avoiding the Middle East.
  • First positioning call at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
  • More than 5,000 passengers arrived today on board the ships ‘Resilient Lady’, ‘AIDAprima’ and ‘Seabourn Ovation’.

On 30 April, the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife welcomed the first positioning stop of the majestic vessel “Resilient Lady” from Virgin Voyages, in a strategic move by the company that marks the beginning of its season in Europe from the island, docking in Tenerife after leaving Walvis Bay, Namibia and thus avoiding potential complications due to the Middle East conflict.

On the occasion of its arrival, the president of Puertos de Tenerife, Pedro Suárez, carried out the traditional exchange of metopes with the ship’s captain, Hannu Kalevi, in a meeting on board the ship which was attended by the media. The ceremonial act was followed by a guided tour of the facilities.

During the event, Hannu Kalevi assured that ‘the services offered by the port of Tenerife are excellent and we are happy to be here’ to which he added ‘we have been crossing for nine days and both the passengers and the crew were looking forward to arriving ashore to enjoy the Island’.

Along these lines, Pedro Suárez underlined that ‘we are reaching almost one million passengers this season and we continue to fight to attract more ships in the summer season’. For the president of Puertos de Tenerife, ‘the Canary Islands is a world reference in the cruise industry and with the Cruises Atlantic Islands Association (CAI) we are not only going to promote the Islands, but also a tourist route through the Atlantic’.

The ship arrived in the capital’s port with 1,339 passengers and 1,057 crew on board. It is the second ship of the Virgin Voyages fleet to dock in the port of Tenerife, as its sister ship the ‘Valiant Lady’ did so in March 2022.

The ship is 277 metres long, 42 metres wide and has a volume of 108232 GT. It is scheduled to set sail tonight at 22:00 hours, bound for the port of Agadir, Morocco.

The vessel joined two other ships in port this morning, ‘AIDAprima’ and ‘Seabourn Ovation’. The first, flagged in Italy, docked at 11:50 am with 3,286 passengers and 1,012 crew members. This ship, also from the port of Walvis Bay, Namibia, had not visited the island since 2018. It is scheduled to depart this afternoon for the port of Hamburg, Germany.

For its part, the ‘Seabourn Ovation’ arrived in Tenerife with 581 passengers and 476 crew members. This beautiful vessel arrived from Arrecife, Lanzarote, and is scheduled to depart at 21:00 hours for La Estaca, El Hierro.
