Description (Master Class concept)

  • This one-day full-session training is dedicated to the potential sources of marine pollution from cruise ships. The training will be oriented towards personnel with little or basic knowledge of marine environmental pollution. Starting with basic concepts and definitions, including blue economy and circular economy, the training will go through the primary sources of pollution, such as oil pollution, sewage, garbage and atmospheric pollution. However, the core of this training will be atmospheric pollution: NOx, SOx, HCFCs, particulate matter and GHG.
  • During the training will be explained how different fuels contribute to environmental pollution and focus on hot topics such as LNG and methanol as fuel, electricity, other energy sources and solutions such as scrubbers and onshore power supply.
  • In order to be able to connect it with the current regulations, the course will also focus on the current IMO developments explaining how the regulations work and the current developments such as lifecycle analysis, carbon intensity indexes and midterm measures.
  • The course will also focus on “Fit for 55”, explaining the central concept and consequences.
