GENOA has developed into a thriving destination for cruise operators and today ranks amongst the leading Mediterranean cruise ports, with an annual throughput of approximately 1.5 million passengers. Stazioni Marittime SpA is the company which since 1989 has been operating Genoa’s five passenger terminals, featuring a total of 290,000 sqm and 12 berths along 3,000 metres of quays. The two purpose-built cruise terminals, the monumental Ponte dei Mille and the art deco Ponte Andrea Doria, are both equipped to handle the latest generation of post-Panamax cruise ships, boasting respectively a 340-m and a 290-m quay (works are underway to extend the quay to 376 m), and a 298 m and a 283 m quay at the adjacent terminal. Both facilities are at the forefront of safety and security measures, adhering to all recent IMO and EU regulations. Access to the terminals is easy as the passenger port is located just 5 km from Genoa International Airport and 200 m from the international railway station, and it is directly linked to the motorway. Ample car and bus parking areas are available adjacent to the cruise terminals.
MSC Cruises, the world’s fastest growing cruise line, homeports at Genoa’s facilities, sailing to destinations in the west and east Mediterranean, North Africa and the Atlantic Islands.
Genoa’s Cruise Terminals are located in the heart of the Old Port Waterfront, a model of modernity which blends perfectly with the architectural elements from the city’s fascinating maritime past, and sits alongside one of Europe’s largest historic city centres, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
SAVONA is strategically located in the heart of the Italian Riviera, close to Genoa, Milan and Nice airports, and is homeport to Costa Crociere for itineraries across the West Mediterranean. The cruise liner operates the two terminals in Savona: Palacrociere Terminal West inaugurated in 2003 and Palacrociere Terminal East, which opened in 2014. Palacrociere features two passenger terminal buildings specifically designed to offer maximum comfort to passengers in complete safety. The two dedicated quays, 450 m and 325 m in length, are capable of accommodating simultaneously three cruise vessels, and up to 12,000 passengers daily. Major infrastructure has recently been completed at the cruise port for a total investment of 24 million euros, including dredging to -11 m and the installation of two new passenger boarding bridges.
Palacrociere sits in the heart of the recently redeveloped Waterfront and just a few steps away from the medieval charm of Savona’s Old Town
Genoa’s waterfront is a model of modernity and the focus of a highly successful redevelopment scheme by Genoese Renzo Piano to host the Expo 1992 events. Europe’s largest state-of-the-art Aquarium and the Galata Maritime Museum are amongst the top attractions nearby. Genoa’s historic centre is one of the largest in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage site, boasting sumptuous marble landmarks, medieval cobblestone lanes and a register of dwellings offering hospitality to royalty. Via Garibaldi, with 42 palazzi dei rolli, is a must-see with three palazzi converted to art galleries.
