On Friday, June 25th, a successful environmental volunteering event took place at the mouth of Barranco del Cercado, in San Andrés, Tenerife. This initiative was a collaborative effort between the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Terramare Association, and the cruise line P&O Cruises, supported locally by its shipping agent, A. Pérez y Cía.
The event brought together more than 30 crew members from the cruise ship Ventura, currently docked at the port, alongside volunteers from the Terramare Association and port personnel. Over three hours (from 09:00 to 12:00), participants collected 125 kg of waste from the coastal area, primarily plastics, cans, a metal plate, and wood.
Additionally, an educational talk was held, focusing on correct waste separation practices and the local fauna, featuring a loggerhead turtle recovered by the Wildlife Recovery Center “La Tahonilla” of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife.
This collaboration marks the second time P&O Cruises has participated in environmental initiatives on the island, reaffirming their commitment to sustainability, marine environmental protection, and ecological awareness within the local communities they visit.
The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife sincerely thanks all stakeholders involved for their effort and dedication and reiterates its commitment to promoting sustainable initiatives that foster connections between the port and local community, supporting responsible tourism.
