Cruise activity at the Port of Volos demonstrates a measurable recovery, based on the arrival data recorded to date, reflecting the outcomes of structured administrative actions implemented by the current management.

In 2025, the Port of Volos accommodated 41 cruise ship calls and a total of 49,298 passengers. These figures indicate a gradual re-establishment of cruise operators’ engagement and an improvement in the port’s operational attractiveness. It is noted that 2024 constituted a particularly adverse period, as the severe flooding events Daniel and Elias in 2023 significantly affected port operations and the public perception of the area, resulting in 26 cruise ship calls and 16,142 passengers.

Notably, passenger volumes recorded in 2025 represent the highest level observed over the past decade.

Regarding 2026, an initial schedule of 51 cruise ship calls has been provisionally confirmed, pending final confirmation. The first scheduled call for the year concerns the cruise vessel Viking Star, which is expected to call at the Port of Volos on 20 January, arriving from Piraeus.

According to a statement by the Chief Executive Officer of the Volos Port Authority, Mr. Sokratis Anagnostou, the increase in cruise activity recorded in 2025 is attributable both to the restoration of port infrastructure and to the implementation of coordinated administrative measures, in cooperation with competent local stakeholders, aimed at enhancing the tourism positioning of the Port of Volos and the wider Magnesia region. Furthermore, the provisional scheduling of cruise calls for 2026 is expected to support further growth in passenger throughput and to generate measurable economic benefits at the local level. The Port Authority remains committed to the principles of orderly development, operational consistency, and continuous service quality improvement, intending to maximize public value for the local community.
