The Port of Las Palmas and the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, finalists in the 2025 Cruceroadicto Awards
Reykjavik is declared the winner at FITUR in the category “Best Port in Atlantic Europe”, in an edition with Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife as finalists
The Port Authority of Las Palmas highlighted today the presence of two Canary ports, the Port of Las Palmas and the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, among the finalists for the Best Port in Atlantic Europe award at the 2025 Cruceroadicto Awards, one of the most relevant recognitions for the Spanish-speaking cruise sector.
The President of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada, stressed that “it is a source of satisfaction for the two nominated Canary ports to appear together in a final in which cruise passengers directly assess their real experience. The fact that both ports are part of the same group of finalists reflects the strength of the Archipelago as a region and confirms the trajectory of cruise tourism in the Canary Islands”.
Likewise, Calzada added that “we appreciate the choice made by cruise passengers and congratulate the Port of Reykjavik and its entire team on the award received. The coexistence of consolidated options in the Mid-Atlantic with destinations in Nordic latitudes demonstrates the diversity, quality and potential of the international cruise map”.
Two ports in a double international cooperation network: MedCruise and Cruise Atlantic Islands
The Port of Las Palmas and the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife are active members of two key organisations for the cruise industry: MedCruise, which brings together more than 160 cruise ports in 22 countries and three continents, and Cruise Atlantic Islands, the international association that brings together the ports of Macaronesia (Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands and Cape Verde) to promote Atlantic itineraries and strengthen joint visibility in tourism markets. Both networks contribute to consolidating the positioning of the Canary ports within the international cruise map and to strengthening cooperation between strategic territories for the sector.
In the Mediterranean and adjacent seas, MedCruise’s mission is to promote international promotion, cooperation, visibility and commercial opportunities for its members. Founded in 1996, it acts as a sector representation platform, manages specialised statistics, facilitates professional training, maintains dialogue with European institutions and collaborates with global entities such as CLIA, ESPO, GSTC, UNWTO or Puertos del Estado, contributing to positioning its members in the main decision-making forums of the sector.
In parallel, Cruise Atlantic Islands structures cooperation between the ports of Macaronesia with the aim of strengthening their attractiveness as a cruise destination in the Mid-Atlantic, developing complementary tourism products and participating jointly in international trade fairs and meetings. This framework of collaboration places Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife within a strategic network that facilitates their international promotion, as reflected by their presence in the final of the 2025 Cruceroadicto Awards alongside the Port of Reykjavik, winner of this edition during the ceremony held at FITUR Cruises in Madrid.
Cruceroadicto Awards: the cruise passenger’s criteria as a sector reference
The Cruceroadicto Awards are characterised by being the only awards in the Spanish-speaking sphere chosen 100% by real cruise passengers, without intervention from industry juries. They also hold official AENOR certification for transparency and impartiality, thanks to an externally audited process that guarantees that each vote reflects authentic travel experiences.
In the 2025 edition, 1,184 candidates took part, including ports, ships and cruise lines, evaluated in 19 categories through thousands of votes from Spain, Latin America and other countries. Only three ports reached finalist status in the Best Port in Atlantic Europe category: Las Palmas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Reykjavik, in Iceland.
The award ceremony took place this afternoon at the FITUR Cruises Auditorium, within the framework of the international tourism fair FITUR, consolidating the institutional dimension of the event.
A nomination that confirms the good moment of the Port of Las Palmas
The Port Authority of Las Palmas considers that this nomination for the Cruceroadicto Awards already constitutes a direct recognition of the work carried out in recent years, endorsing the port’s operational quality, its strategic role in the Mid-Atlantic and the growing level of cruise passenger satisfaction.
