The nomination recognises operational quality, the cruise passenger experience and the port’s strategic position in the Mid-Atlantic

In this edition, ports from 118 countries are competing, with 1,184 initial candidates across 19 categories and more than 5,000 valid votes cast by international cruise passengers

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 16 January 2026

The Port Authority of Las Palmas has once again been selected as a finalist in the 2025 Cruceroadicto Awards, specifically in the category “Best Atlantic Europe Port”, an award that the public body already won in 2023 in the same category.

This nomination represents direct recognition of the experience offered by the Port of Las Palmas to cruise lines and passengers, as well as of its strategic role in the Mid-Atlantic as both a home port and a port of call.

The President of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Beatriz Calzada, highlighted that “being among the finalists once again is a source of pride for the entire port community. It is a recognition that does not come from the industry itself, but from cruise passengers, which underlines the value of the work carried out by those who make Las Palmas a welcoming, efficient and competitive port”.

Calzada also noted that “this type of nomination demonstrates the importance of continuing to invest in infrastructure, connectivity and the passenger experience. Regardless of the final result, being among the top three ports in Atlantic Europe according to travellers is already a success. In 2023, the Port of Las Palmas received this same award after being chosen by cruise passengers as the Best Atlantic Europe Port, a recognition that reflected both the quality of port services and the satisfaction of international travellers”.

The organisers reported that, out of the 1,184 initial candidates, only 57 have reached finalist status, making this selection a particularly significant milestone in terms of quality and competitiveness within the sector.

The award ceremony, which will be attended by the President of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, will take place next Thursday, 22 January 2026, at 16:00, at the FITUR Cruises Auditorium in Madrid. The event will feature international media coverage and a subsequent networking meeting with sector stakeholders.

Leading in port operations and passenger services

Among the main criteria highlighted by cruise passengers are port operational efficiency during embarkation and disembarkation, connectivity with the city and proximity to tourist attractions, the quality of passenger services both at the terminal and in the surrounding urban area, the ability to operate Atlantic and transoceanic itineraries, as well as the availability of infrastructure specifically adapted to cruise traffic.

In the case of the Port of Las Palmas, its role as a winter home port, the urban integration of the port area and the diversification of routes have been particularly valued by cruise lines and passengers.

In addition, the event will provide an opportunity to further promote the Port of Las Palmas internationally and strengthen its positioning among the main players in the cruise sector.
