The Seabourn Ovation ship closes the season

In 2025, the Port of Roses has welcomed 15 port calls, setting a historic record and nearly doubling the 8 calls from the previous season. In addition, the port has received 4,100 passengers, almost three times the number recorded last year. The economic impact of cruise activity in the territory is estimated at around €390,000. This figure was taken from a study by the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), which estimates that each passenger spends an average of €89 when they disembark at a port of call and visit the destination. In addition, €6 per passenger has been added in terms of ship-linked expenditure on port services.

Cruise ship activity in the Port of Roses has lasted for eight months this year, from April to November, without interruption. Half of the cruise ships have made their visit during the low season. This has helped to reduce the seasonality of tourist activity in Alt Empordà and the Costa Brava, thereby boosting employment and the economy of the town of Roses and its surrounding areas.

By nationality, most of the tourists who visited Alt Empordà have been North Americans (34%), French (21%), Australians (8%), British (7%), Belgians (4%), Canadians (2%), Swiss (1.5%) and Germans (1%), among others.

In addition to visiting the most iconic places in Roses, 25% of tourists took excursions around the region. Ranked from most to least visited, the destinations were: Girona, L’Escala-Empúries, Cadaqués, Figueres (Dalí Museum), elBulli1846, Peratallada and Llançà.

The season has closed with visits from six cruise lines: Club Med, Emerald Cruises, Mystic Cruises, Ponant Yacht Cruises, Seabourn and SeaDream Yacht Club. Of these, 83% are European, from countries like France, Norway, Portugal and Switzerland, while the remaining 17% are North American. The port has also welcomed two inaugural calls from cruise ships: The Austral and the Emerald Sakara.

Seabourn Ovation

The Seabourn Ovation cruise ship, operated by Seabourn, marked the close of the 2025 season, having visited Roses on four occasions throughout the year. The vessel arrived at 8:00 a.m. from the French port of Marseilles, anchored in the Bay of Roses, and departed for Barcelona at 5:00 p.m. On board there were 560 passengers, predominantly North Americans, Australians and Canadians. The Seabourn Ovation measures 210 metres in length, with a draft of 6.8 metres and a beam of 28 metres.
